What is a Gift Card?
It is a gift you send to a friend, family member, or business associate. The gift card is for a specific dollar amount and can be spent like cash at the retailer whose gift card you’ve purchased. The gift card is sent with the greeting card.
Is a gift card like a gift certificate or an e-certificate?
It is neither. It looks like a credit card and can be carried in your wallet or purse unlike a paper certificate.
Where can the gift card be spent?
Depending upon the retailer you choose, it can either be spent in the retail stores or the web sites of the retailers
How will the gift cards arrive to the recipient?
They will be affixed to the inside of the greeting card.
Why does it cost more to send a greeting card with a gift card?
In addition to the cost of the gift card itself, there is a manual process required to insert the gift card into the greeting card prior to mailing it to the recipient. For this reason it costs a few dollars more.
How will the recipient know the dollar value on the gift card?
They can find out in a few ways. First, they can contact the retailer through their phone number or web site and input their gift card number to find the balance. Next, they could go to the retail store directly. Either way, just contact the retailer and they’ll let you know how much you can spend.
Can I add to the dollar amount on the gift card?
Depending upon the retailer, you can. Many retailers will let you add money to the balance of the gift card. This can be done online or in the retail store.
What if the recipient loses the gift card or it is stolen?
Each retailer has their own policy towards lost or stolen cards. Usually retailers are very helpful with helping you recover the value from cards that are lost or stolen, but you should save your receipt. Contact the retailer for their policies on lost or stolen gift cards.
Can I get cash from the retailer?
No, usually retailers will only exchange the dollar value on the gift card for merchandise in the store. Check with each retailer individually.
